'Self Portrait'
Last day of March, last prompt. Drawing number 91. I look sleepy, with dishevelled hair. Whatever works.
I've fallen behind with posting these to Deviant Art... But I've also read the first two of the Hunger Games book in the last three days. I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.

Birthday
Today's prompt was 'Black and White', so my drawing is indeed in black and white (like most of them), but that was a little beside the point today.
It's my birthday, so as a present to myself, I've drawn one of my favourite paintings ever, Marc Chagall's 'The Birthday'.
I love it. And I quite like how this turned out. I think I'll keep this one, and frame it.
Detail.
So this is how I started my birthday:
Pancakes with bacon, blueberries, banana, mascapone, and maple syrup, courtesy of my lovely husband.
We've had afternoon tea with his Mum, brother, Nanna, and cousin this afternoon on the deck. Chicken Paella tonight (soooo yummy!).
And if I don't blog tomorrow, it's because I've fallen into some sweet heavenly coma after gorging myself on the Devil's Own Cupcakes...
28 Salted Caramel Mocha Cupcakes (recipe from the delectable blog Bakingdom. sorry if this doesn't lead you into temptation, more like pushes you headlong... lol).
Oh well, Happy Birthday to me!

Today's prompt: 'Something small'
So we have a little bird (one of my little darling's favourite songs at the moment is 'Little Bird' by ELizabeth Mitchell).
I drew a bird becaue at some point my sister and I will get our matching tattoos finished and we'd like to incorporate a bird (so I keep drawing birds, as does she, and we'll find one we love eventually). I think we'll drop the latin now, as it would kind of clash with the Greek we already have... :)
Normally the second photo is a detail shot... Today you get a scale shot instead.

Kindness...

Today's prompt: 'Your view'.
I interpreted this one fairly loosely...
The quote is one of many I like on the subject. And there are many. The one my daughter hears most often (because she loves it) is from The Help
So far it's true, my hope is it stays that way.
This is actually my second drawing of the day, the first I finished colouring and posted off to a stranger as a gift. Kind of inspired today's post I think.

Hand made
Today's prompt is "Something you made".
So here is the little red dress I made for Bella for her first birthday (it was a bit too big. Oops!).
This was very quick and sketchy, and I'm not a fan, but it will do.
I did draw yesterday too, but decided not to share it just yet. Maybe later.
Original image.
The day before Bella's 2nd birthday, it still fit (as a shirt).

A childhood memory...
19-03-2012
Childhood Memory.
This one has a bit of a story actually...
As a young girl, growing up in the late 80's/ early 90's with a mother who didn't question gender stereotypes (but did not enforce them at all, I had as much fun with Matchbox cars and Transformers as I did with Barbies) I had quite a doll collection. Some precious, like the porcelain doll my grandmother gave me for my 10th birthday (I still have her, she's sitting pretty in my daughter's bedroom), some not so much.
This little dolly is probably not worth much money wise, but she captured my imagination totally. And then one day she was gone.
It must have been after my mother cleaned many of my toys out of my room and into storage to make room for sharing with my little sister. To begin with I don't think I noticed, as I had somewhat outgrown her. But she was never forgotten, and I would occassionally begin to hunt for her before being distracted by something or other ("Off with the pixies!" my Scottish grandfather would proclaim).
After my daughter was born, I thought more and more frequently of that little soft dolly, I wanted my Bella to know the same facination I had known. When visiting my Mother one weekend, we instated a large scale search for the dolly. We had looked through all but one last lonely box, and I was hot, sweaty, sticky, and more than half convinced that my dolly had gone off with the pixies herself.
And then Mum pulled her out of the very bottom of that last box...
And here she is
She may not look like much, she's just a rather retro looking little cloth dolly, but she has a secret, you see...
She changes. Like a book, you turn up the skirt of her dress and she has a new face, and a new dress. Four in all. I've never forgotten her.
My magic dolly.

Animal...
18-03-2012
Today's prompt was 'Animal', so I drew the design on Bella's t-shirt, because it is super freaking cute!
I suppose had I thought about it and planned out what I wanted to draw I could have done something amazing like a page from Animalia but I was lazy. Soooo lazy. So lazy that I didn't bother drawing until after I had eaten our yummy chicken and vegetable lasagne for dinner. And now I'm so full that I don't care. :)
I think it's still pretty cute though!

Working it...
Today's prompt was work...
So here is a semi self portrait as a 50's style houswife, complete with overcooked dinner, annoying call from telemarketer, toddler failed to be amused by iPad, scattered toys and shoes, all whilst charmingly wearing half of dinner on her shirt.
This just about sums it up some days. lol

Innocence
Today's prompt was innocence.
We spent some of the afternoon at the library (always a popular choice).
It was so hard to choose what to draw today, but in the end I drew something that I think gets it pretty right.
But first, here's my monkey girl at the library.
Smiley!
One of the many faces I get pulled at the camera...
Kicking back.
Aah! This is the life!
My girl.
Detail.
As usual click to see a larger image and more detail.

Snack time...
Todays prompt was, well as above.
I seem to really like drawing children's characters, so I went for one of my old favourites.
I remember having an Oscar the Grouch pillow that I used to drag to pre school with me. He was the c-c-coolest! He's in my garage right now. I'd love to give him to my daughter, but he's not looking too good these days, so I sewed up a panel pillow for her of the Cookie monster for her birthday last year, because who can resist a giant cookie obsessed blue monster?
Well... Perhaps she can.
I will admit, I probably spend more time snuggling Cookie than she does...
Aaaaand here is toaday's drawing.

11-03-2012
Today's prompt was design, so this is a readaptation of one of my costume designs for Tom Stoppard's Arcadia.
These were done for the HSC (If your kiddies ever wish to do Drama for the HSC I would encourage any with artistic talent to do costume or set design. A little effort got me really good results. Most everyone does performance, so it is a heck of a lot more competition).
If you haven't read the play, I can highly recommend it. Far more accessible than some of Stoppard's other works, and funny as all get out. It is set in a an English country manor in 1810/1813 and the present day (or the 1990's when it was actually written).
This is Lady Croom, a haughty, melodramatic member of the British aristocracy in 1810.

Closet...
Today's prompt was (you guessed it!) closet.
When I was finished drawing I told my husband what the prompt of the day was to see if he could guess what I had drawn...
C: "Something about gay rights and marriage equality?"
Me: *dang, didn't even think of that!* "Nooooo...."
C: "Something from Narnia?"
Me: "That's a wardrobe not a closet..."
C: *Shrugs*
Here is ALL I could think of when I read today's prompt. No thinking outside the box for me, nosiree!

My Happiness
06-03-2012
Today's prompt was Happiness... I almost drew a warm gun for my husband the Beatles fan, but decided on something a little sweeter instead.
I messed up my darling girl's face, but that is less than surprising. Drawing her is far too hard, I'm almost never happy with the result (I actually am today, despite the flaws).
