BIG POST! (You have been warned)

Okay, I fell behind with my uploading, so here is the month of April so far.
I must say, editing is far easier like this, but uploading takes waaaay longer. I can't say it won't happen again, because it might. I was feeling rather unwell, then I was feeling just as lazy. Here they are, hope you like them!

Psychadelic peacock feather. Just because.

Rudie Nudie!
By Emma Quay, Bella loves this library book so much, I may need to buy her a copy!)

"Neezing!"
Felt like that's all I did that day. Bella gets very concerned: "Okay? Okay?". It's a wee bit cute!

Animals in the style of Jo Joof.
Bella has a book of these, which matches the quilt her Great-Gran made her. She's such a lucky girl. :)

Harry the Dirty Dog.
I loved this book as a child. And now I think I'll have to track down a copy for my daughter. :)

Rose.
Because on those days where I just can't be bothered, or don't know what to do, I fall back on things which come easily.

Owls.
These were a birthday present from last year... I love them. I got another set this year, that need to find a home. I shall have to find them one. :)

The Walrus and The Carpenter.
I can't remember whose illustration style I stole... Google will know.

Detail

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Because I'm totally jealous of my little baby cousin's cloth version of the book (Easter yesterday, he comes prepared despite not even being six months old yet... lol). It is freaking adorable!

Kindness...

26-03-2012
Today's prompt: 'Your view'.
I interpreted this one fairly loosely...

The quote is one of many I like on the subject. And there are many. The one my daughter hears most often (because she loves it) is from The Help
You are kind
You are smart
You are important

So far it's true, my hope is it stays that way.

This is actually my second drawing of the day, the first I finished colouring and posted off to a stranger as a gift. Kind of inspired today's post I think.

I saw red...

Today's prompt was favourite colour.
My 2.5 loved this, both the prep for it and the drawing itself. She's a bit fascinated by the whole thing. :)
She kept toucing my lipsa and then staring at her fingers and saying "Ooooooh reeeeeed!".
She cracks me up.

Working it...

Today's prompt was work...
So here is a semi self portrait as a 50's style houswife, complete with overcooked dinner, annoying call from telemarketer, toddler failed to be amused by iPad, scattered toys and shoes, all whilst charmingly wearing half of dinner on her shirt.
This just about sums it up some days. lol

Something Blue

Today's prompt was... Well you don't really need me to say it again, do you? lol
So I present for you, my best and most beautiful (not to mention only...) sister, and her amazing blue eyes.

A little closer...

Gemini- Typography (Day three of the March photo challenge... I will admit I had forgotten, and the typographical element was an afterthought. Oops!).
Because two pairs of twins in my family have birthdays this week, and I felt like it, so here it is (this doesn't actually physically represent either set, my aunts don't look very alike, and the other set are 12 year old boys...).

Me with 17 things... (Day 2 of drawing the Photo a Day Challenge for March).
I pictured this in the style of Frida Kahlo's self portraits, and didn't quite get it there, but tried hard not to pretty myself up... If only I had an epic unibrow! :)
And yes, I stole one of Frida's monkeys... What of it? :)

01-03-2012

So this month to avoid the daily pondering of what to draw, I'll try one of those Photo a Day challenges (there are several floating around, so if I don't like the idea for one, I can just go with a different one).
Today's drawing is of March's Calendar (a very awesome gift from my very awesome cousin).

20-02-2012

Today I was nostalgic for all the time I got to spend on my art when I was a teen.
I would do a life drawing class every week for several hours, and the progress I made was phenominal.
My sense of perspective and the speed with which I could sketch detail came light years from what it was when I first nervously walked into that intimidating studio.
17 years old, and the youngset in the class by well over a decade, I was scared senseless of making mistakes, or being sent away because I wasn't good enough.

Those weeks were so important for me, and I will always be grateful for them.
But oh how I miss that time, and the freedom I discovered when I was given the chance to do something I had never even dreamed of when I was sketching on my bunk bed and blu-tacing my drawings to my walls.

I had intended this to be a five minute sketch like we practiced way back when (drawing a nude in 30 seconds? Hilarious! 20- 30 minutes was what we would finish up with at the end of the night), but tonight, much like it would back then, the five minutes stretched into 15. It flies when you're having fun you know.
As I sadly did not have a life model tonight, a photo had to do (very much not the same thing! lol) it is 'Nude' by Edward Weston (1936).

After Man Ray's Le Violon d'Ingres (1924).
Got to love an F hole tattoo! Okay, not everyone likes tattoos, but I do. lol

I lost a fair amount of depth in the shadows and the f hole tattoos from my terrible camera phone's terrible flash, but you get the picture.

Costume design- Gilda.
Ignore horrid mistakes, and failed attempt at retro style design.
I used to do a lot of costume design. I really loved it. I even did it as part of Drama for the HSC, and again at Uni.
This is not my own design, just what I felt like doing. It was quick and fun, and that's all that really matters.

Triple Goddess- Maiden(in the style of Mucha).
First panel in a triptych.
By request, for a friend of mine.
There will almost certainly be a colour version, and a Mother and Crone to round out the set.
Hope you like it!

And after a bit of painting in Photoshop, progress!

More painting in Photoshop and she's all done apart from a few little touch ups, Woo!

30-01-2012

A slightly strange, very stylised self portrait, as disembodied head.
After my mother decided my yesterday's cartoons must be me (because I drew one little tongue poking out) I figured today I would do an actual self portrait. So far it is not popular with anyone but my two year old.

B: *Points to drawing* "Mummy!"
M: "How can you tell?"
B: *Points to hair in drawing* "PINK!".

So there you go!

This drawing was basically to cover up the fact that a certain someone drew in my book with pen... Hence the odd scarf, and slightly strange lines.
Here it is!

Tattoo Woman.
I might update later if I play around with colouring her...
Or I might not (if I fail so dismally that I can not bare to share!).

Ok, here she is after I did some digital colouring. I kinda like it.

Any and all feedback welcome!
