A (rather retro and nostalgic) farewell to Summer.
I almost didn't do anything today. My throat feels like I've been chowing down on cut glass, my sinuses are so full they ache, and my nose... Don't even get me started on my nose.
So goodbye Summer, wish I could have given you a better send off.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to crawl into bed and pretend my head doesn't exist.

Le Chat Noir, Théophile Steinlen (1896?).
A very quick one today. I have a project I'm working on, and I might be a bit slack with my daily drawings for a few days until it's done.
A print of this has been hanging on my wall for quite a few years and several houses, so when I couldn't think of what to draw, a glance around made my mind up for me.
Here it is.
As usual, click to see more detail.

I was sitting on the lounge with my book and pencil trying to figure out what I wanted to draw today.
My little angel came and stood beside me and started 'reading' one of her Doctor Suess books very quietly (we'd been shopping, cycling and we played in the park, so she was a bit sedate). I spent another few moments wracking my brain and then noticed how quiet and still she was being and laid down the pencil lines as fast as I could before she moved!
No sooner did I have a decent outline than she decided it was time to toilet. I filled out the sketch in pen while my husband took care of our girl. The whole thing took less than 25 minutes.
I love it! :)

Today I was nostalgic for all the time I got to spend on my art when I was a teen.
I would do a life drawing class every week for several hours, and the progress I made was phenominal.
My sense of perspective and the speed with which I could sketch detail came light years from what it was when I first nervously walked into that intimidating studio.
17 years old, and the youngset in the class by well over a decade, I was scared senseless of making mistakes, or being sent away because I wasn't good enough.
Those weeks were so important for me, and I will always be grateful for them.
But oh how I miss that time, and the freedom I discovered when I was given the chance to do something I had never even dreamed of when I was sketching on my bunk bed and blu-tacing my drawings to my walls.
I had intended this to be a five minute sketch like we practiced way back when (drawing a nude in 30 seconds? Hilarious! 20- 30 minutes was what we would finish up with at the end of the night), but tonight, much like it would back then, the five minutes stretched into 15. It flies when you're having fun you know.
As I sadly did not have a life model tonight, a photo had to do (very much not the same thing! lol) it is 'Nude' by Edward Weston (1936).

We went bicyling this afternoon.
Mu husband with our daughter in the trailer thingy, his parents, his lovely cousin Christa (who is visiting from Finland) and myself.
It was a gorgeous relaxed outing, along the lake, with lots of late afternoon sun and a nice cool breeze.
Along the way we stopped for ice cream (have I ever mentioned how much I adore Lemon Sorbet? I really do!).
It was also the fourth day of my little one being in knickers full time. There was a little accident, as apparently she doesn't like public toilets (I can't blame her, they didn't even have seats), but she is doing so well, and I am very proud. :)
So today inspired my drawing. I only wish I had an awesome retro red bike (not the blue ugly, but very functional men's mountain bike I own).
So the following is definitely not how I roll, but it would be nice indeed to be so chic. :)

My nephew is going through a Spaceship phase.
So I had a request from his Mummy to please draw him a spaceship.
I put it on the list, but couldn't really see a way to make it something personally interesting for me...
And then I saw this
on Rachael's excelent blog fawn and doe, and I couldn't resist! :)
The colour version rocks my world! I want to print it out and hang it up! :)

Richard and Mildred Loving (1965).
The Lovings were an interracial married couple who were criminally charged under a Virginia statute banning such marriages.
The Lovings filed suit seeking to overturn the law.
In 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, striking down the Virginia statute and all state anti-miscegenation laws as unconstitutional violations of the Fourteenth Amendment
Happy Valentine's Day to all of those who have fought and those who still fight for marriage equality!

I often used to draw characters veing blown away by balloons. Usually this character would be Pierrette, sometimes it was myself. Although I think that I identified more with the balloon than the clown...
Anyway I started with the rainbow watercolour background and then I just drew on it.
I guess balloons are on my mind.
As usual, click for more detail

This is my drawing for the day, on my wrist, on the train, on the way to the Harry Potter exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum. And now, as I have had 45 minutes sleep in the last 30 odd hours, I will do the smart thing and post more photos!
My tasty, tasty lunch/ dessert. Forgotten the name of the establishment, but it is in Capitol Plaza, and it was divine!
The Flying Ford Anglia from Chamber of Secrets

Afternoon tea and a good book.
Because I couldn't make it to Sydney for the boob out in front of Facebook today...
Breastfeeding =/= sexual, explicit, obscene, etc., it is normal, it is ordinary, it is lunch. And it is important to see.

Costume design- Gilda.
Ignore horrid mistakes, and failed attempt at retro style design.
I used to do a lot of costume design. I really loved it. I even did it as part of Drama for the HSC, and again at Uni.
This is not my own design, just what I felt like doing. It was quick and fun, and that's all that really matters.
